Encinitas Real Estate

The City of Encinitas, CA encompasses five communities including Historic Encinitas, The New Encinitas, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia and Olivenhain. Encinitas is home to roughly 60,000 Southern Californians residing between Batiquitos Lagoon, located to the north of Encinitas, and the San Elijo Lagoon, located to the south. The City of Encinitas, incorporated in 1986, takes pride in maintaining a six mile stretch of Pacific Ocean in North San Diego County. The name Encinitas derives from the original Spanish expeditions through the region in the late 1600s. It is believed that small oak trees grew on the hillsides and the name Encinitas roughly translates to “Hills of Live Oaks.”

Homes in the Encinitas real estate market can be found perched on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and soaking up never ending sunsets. Homes for sale in Encinitas can also be found among the gentle rolling hillsides, or scattered throughout the flat coastal region.

Because of the unbeatable weather conditions, between 40 to 85 degrees year-round, most residents find themselves always soaking up the California sun. Activities abound in Encinitas. The city is known for endless surfing contests, so grab your board and head to Swami’s Park, made famous by the Beach Boys song, Surfing USA. Offshore of Swami’s Beach, at the only underwater park in North San Diego, is the best place to scuba dive in the area at Encinitas Marine Life Refuge. If you just want to lie in the sun, try one of the other ten beaches in Encinitas including a local favorite, Moonlight Beach, named after 1920s bootleggers.

If golf is more your sport, bring your clubs to the new championship Encinitas Ranch Golf Course. Afterwards you might find yourself having lunch at a sidewalk café or shopping in Downtown 101, the local favorite shopping district.

There is an unbridled amount of history and culture surrounding Encinitas. Residents have the luxury of enjoying the 30-acre Quail Botanical Gardens, less than a mile east of Hwy 101. The La Paloma Theatre, opened in 1928 and still operating today, was one of the country’s first theatres to show talking pictures. Drive the streets of Encinitas and hunt for The Boathouses, possibly the most notorious buildings in the Encinitas real estate market. At Christmas time, Encinitas is the place to be for poinsettias, or other ornamental flowers grown locally by the city’s largest industry.

The City of Encinitas caters to families with new single family communities filled with numerous parks and great schools. The real estate market in Encinitas also offers hillside oceanview mansions or smaller townhouses and condos. Encinitas takes pride on remaining real to the original laidback beach lifestyle that was created in this area years ago.
